SDP to Hold Fresh Governorship Primaries in Gombe, Nasarawa

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its decision to conduct fresh governorship primaries in Gombe and Nasarawa states. This decision follows the withdrawal of its previously selected candidates in both states.

The letter, dated August 24, 2026, was signed by SDP National Chairman Prof. Sadiq Gombe and National Secretary Dr. Olu Agunloye. The primaries are set to take place on Saturday, August 24, 2026, starting at 11 am, and will be conducted through the direct primary mode.

The Gombe State primary will occur at the SDP State Secretariat in Gombe, while the Nasarawa State primary will be held at Ta'al Hotel in Lafia. The party has attached the withdrawal letters and sworn affidavits of the candidates who had initially emerged as its standard-bearers to formalize their exit from the race.

This move indicates the SDP's intention to field new candidates ahead of the governorship elections, ensuring compliance with INEC's requirements for candidate substitution.
