Mohammed Adamu Becomes SDP Candidate for Nasarawa

On September 7, 2026, Mohammed Adamu, the former Inspector-General of Police, was declared the governorship candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State. This announcement came after his campaign organization protested the listing of Musa Angbazo as the SDP candidate by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on August 30, 2026.

Adamu had recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) after losing the SDP governorship primary on May 21-22, 2026. Following consultations across the state's 13 local government areas, Adamu's campaign organization asserted his candidacy.

A fresh primary was held in Lafia, where Adamu was the sole candidate, receiving 28,637 votes from delegates. Joseph Achile, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, confirmed that Adamu met the party's constitutional requirements and was declared the winner.

In his acceptance speech, Adamu expressed gratitude to the delegates and pledged to address issues of governance in the state.
