Taraba State Mandates Resignation for 2027 Election Aspirants

The Taraba State Government has issued a directive requiring all political appointees and civil servants to resign from their positions immediately if they plan to contest in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This announcement aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

The statement, signed by Josiah Sabo Kente, the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor, emphasizes that the law mandates public officials seeking electoral positions to step down within the legally approved period to participate in party primaries. The directive aims to promote fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all aspirants.

Agbu Kefa, the Governor, reaffirmed the government's commitment to constitutional order and democratic standards, stressing that political discipline will be upheld and existing electoral laws will be fully enforced. Public officials who ignore this directive risk facing legal consequences, including disqualification from participating in the electoral process.
