INEC to Deploy 1.4 Million NYSC Members for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced its intention to engage 1.4 million National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for the upcoming 2027 general elections. This was disclosed by INEC Chairman, Prof.

Joash Amupitan, during a courtesy visit to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja. Amupitan emphasized the vital role of corps members in the electoral process, stating that INEC cannot conduct elections in Nigeria without their participation.

For the 2027 elections, INEC will require approximately 707,384 ad hoc staff, with corps members expected to make up nearly 90% of the workforce. The elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, for presidential and national assembly elections, and February 6, 2027, for governorship and state assembly elections.

Amupitan noted the successful deployment of around 1.2 million ad hoc staff during the 2023 elections, highlighting the importance of corps members in ensuring a seamless electoral process.
