Nigeria Police Force trains 10,000 officers for 2027 elections

As the 2027 general elections approach, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), has initiated training for 10,000 police officers nationwide on election security management. The training program, which lasts five days, was formally opened on Thursday at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja.
It focuses on various aspects including crowd control, conflict prevention, human rights, and lawful responses to election-related incidents. IGP Olatunji Disu directed that officers must remain neutral and professional, warning that any officer compromising the Force's neutrality would be held accountable.
The first phase of the training includes officers from 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The IGP also announced a 24-hour complaints line for reporting misconduct during elections.
Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the NPTF, reaffirmed the Fund's commitment to supporting police preparedness through training and operational resources.
