Nigeria Police Force Unveils Election Security Plan for 2027

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has adopted a comprehensive election-security roadmap aimed at protecting voters, electoral officials, and materials while preventing violence during the 2027 general elections. This initiative was established during the sixth Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026) held in Owerri, Imo State.

The conference, organized by the NPF in collaboration with Lenders Consult International, focused on developing effective management strategies for election security. A key resolution includes the formation of an election-security task force with defined responsibilities and performance indicators.

The NPF will implement a “Predict, Prevent and Manage” framework, utilizing historical data and current intelligence to identify electoral flashpoints. Additionally, the police will enhance smart policing through digitization and artificial intelligence while ensuring technology complements professional judgment.

The conference emphasized inter-agency collaboration and adherence to principles of legality and accountability in public-order operations during elections.
