ActionAid Nigeria Urges INEC to Ensure Election Transparency
ActionAid Nigeria, along with Centre LSD, Abuja School of Social, and other partners, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish a state-by-state dashboard that shows applications, screening, and certification for the five roles advertised on the INECPRES portal until 18 November 2026. Andrew Mamedu, the Country Director of ActionAid, stated that INEC must provide transparent evidence of its readiness for the upcoming elections, as credible elections are built long before election day.
He highlighted the importance of timely distribution of materials, impartial recruitment, and effective training of personnel. Mamedu also urged the Director-General of NYSC to biometrically certify the NYSC list and publish training completion rates.
He noted that INEC faced significant shortfalls in staffing for the 2023 elections and called for a reserve pool of personnel. With less than 80 days until the election, Mamedu stressed that electoral logistics cannot be treated as an internal matter and must be transparent to restore public confidence.
