Sulaiman Abba to Run for Senate in Jigawa under PDP

Alhaji Sulaiman Abba, the former Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force, has announced his intention to contest for a senatorial seat under the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State during the 2027 general elections. He made this declaration during a press interview on Sunday, expressing his desire to serve the public through political office.

Abba's decision to defect to the PDP was influenced by the denial of a ticket to contest under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized his qualifications as an educated professional with leadership experience, good health, and a passion for governance, which he believes make him a suitable candidate for the Jigawa South-West Senatorial seat.

On July 4, 2026, Abba officially left the APC after nearly four years as a member and prominent stakeholder. He previously oversaw the 2015 elections, ensuring fairness and justice, which contributed to the victory of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The general elections in Nigeria are scheduled for January 2027.
