Babachir Lawal Warns Against Voting Atiku in 2027

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has publicly advised Nigerians against supporting Atiku Abubakar in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, alleging that Atiku engages in ethnic politics. Lawal made these comments during a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday night, specifically addressing the controversy surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship ticket in Adamawa State.

He claimed that Atiku was attempting to replace the ADC's elected governorship candidate, Suleiman Omar, with Tukur Modibbo. In response, Atiku Abubakar denied these allegations, labeling them as false and baseless.

His media aide, Phrank Shaibu, issued a statement on Thursday asserting that Atiku had no involvement in any efforts to replace Omar and emphasized that the ADC remains committed to internal democracy and due process. The statement also urged party members and the public to disregard what it termed "malicious propaganda.".
