Lawal to Sue ADC, Atiku Over Candidate Substitution

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced his intention to pursue legal action against Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding the alleged unlawful substitution of Engr Umar Suleiman as the party's gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election in Adamawa State. Lawal criticized Atiku for showing contempt for the rule of law, claiming that the ADC's leadership unlawfully replaced Suleiman with Tukur Moddibo after he won the party's primary election.

Lawal stated that this substitution violates the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution, and the party's Primary Elections Guidelines. He expressed concerns that this decision would jeopardize the ADC's chances in the upcoming election.

Lawal highlighted that the replacement was influenced by Atiku's preference for Moddibo, who belongs to the Fulani ethnic group, contrasting with Suleiman, a Kilba Muslim. He warned that this act of injustice could facilitate a victory for the APC candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Galadima.
