Bauchi Reps Defect from PDP to APM Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Thursday, four lawmakers from Bauchi State announced their defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied People's Movement (APM) during a plenary session. The defecting representatives are Muhammad Shehu (Zaki Federal Constituency), Aliyu Garu (Bauchi Federal Constituency), Sani Tanko (Shira/Giade Federal Constituency), and Mansur Soro (Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency).

Speaker Tajudeen Abba read their letter of resignation from the PDP, which cited internal crises within the party and the need for effective representation of their constituencies as reasons for their decision. This defection is part of a broader trend of political realignment in Nigeria, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.

The PDP has faced significant challenges in maintaining unity, with recent reports indicating that eight lawmakers left the party in a single day, while others have switched to the APC and other parties. The APM appears to be the main beneficiary of this political reshuffle, gaining support from various lawmakers.
