INEC Chairman Amupitan Calls for Fair Elections Ahead of 2027

On Friday, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), addressed INEC staff, stressing that free and fair elections are non-negotiable as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections.

He acknowledged the existing trust deficit in the commission and highlighted the importance of restoring public confidence in the electoral process. Amupitan called on the staff to work diligently to ensure credible elections, stating that their actions today would shape the future of Nigeria.

He announced that INEC would conduct a voter revalidation exercise to ensure accurate data of eligible voters and remove names of those not registered. He also encouraged public awareness and education regarding the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Barrister Obo Effanga, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, expressed gratitude for Amupitan's visit and assured that the commission would fulfill its mandate ahead of the 2027 elections.
