INEC Chairman Amupitan Urges Staff for Credible Elections

Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), delivered a strong message to INEC staff in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, emphasizing the obligation to provide Nigerians with free and fair elections. During his address on Friday, Amupitan urged the staff to remain committed to delivering credible elections, stating that transparency in the electoral process is essential for restoring public trust.

He noted that the preparations for the 2027 general elections must prioritize integrity among INEC officials across the country. Amupitan's visit included inspections of ongoing voter registration exercises, where he acknowledged complaints regarding slow network connections affecting the registration process.

He expressed satisfaction with the turnout of young Nigerians registering to vote and called for stronger voter awareness campaigns to ensure eligible citizens participate in the electoral process. Obo Effanga, the resident electoral commissioner for the state, welcomed Amupitan's visit and reiterated the commitment to delivering credible elections in line with INEC's mandate.
