Lalong Advocates for Continuity in Tinubu's Economic Reforms

Simon Lalong, speaking at a National Forum of Former Presiding Officers of state Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, called on Nigerians to give President Bola Tinubu the opportunity to complete his economic reforms. He stated that these measures require time to yield their full benefits.

Lalong's remarks come in light of the economic changes initiated by the Tinubu administration since it took office in May 2023, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, which led to increased petrol prices and higher living costs. He described this subsidy removal as one of the most challenging economic decisions in recent years, necessary to redirect resources towards productive capacity rather than consumption.

Lalong noted that while the World Bank and International Monetary Fund recognized improvements in Nigeria's macroeconomic stability, challenges such as high inflation and poverty persist. He emphasized the importance of continuity in consolidating the changes initiated by the Federal Government to address structural challenges.
