Benue Group Advocates for Kwande in 2027 Governorship

On Tuesday, a coalition group known as the Benue Liberal Movement (BLM), led by Leonard Ikyem, called for the zoning of the 2027 governorship election in Benue State to Kwande. During a press conference in Makurdi, the group appealed to key stakeholders, including the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, the leader of the APC in Benue, George Akume, and former governor Samuel Ortom.

The BLM argued that Kwande has faced historical marginalization, having only had four years of governance under Governor Aper Aku, who served from 1983. In contrast, other areas like Jemgbagh and Sankera enjoyed full eight-year terms.

The group noted that the Jechira area had a shortened administration in 2023, emphasizing that Kwande deserves similar recognition and representation in the upcoming election to correct the historical imbalance.
