Policy Reversals Post-2027 Could Derail Nigeria's Reforms

Nur’deen Olaitan Amodu-Ode, Chairman and Leader of Kwara Indigenes in Kaduna, cautioned that abandoning ongoing reforms after the 2027 presidential election could significantly hinder Nigeria’s development, potentially forcing the nation to "start over." In a statement titled “2027: A Choice Between Consolidation and Starting Over,” he urged Nigerians to consider the long-term effects of changing policies with each new administration. Amodu-Ode highlighted that previous administrations have often discontinued inherited policies, leading to wasted resources and diminished investor confidence.

He argued that meaningful transformation requires consistent policies and long-term commitment, particularly in infrastructure and economic reforms. He acknowledged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda aims to tackle Nigeria's structural challenges, despite some reforms causing public debate and economic pressure.

Amodu-Ode warned that replacing ongoing programs post-2027 could lead to further policy reviews and uncertainty, stressing the importance of accountability alongside continuity in governance.
