Iyabo Obasanjo Aims for Ogun Governorship in 2027

Iyabo Obasanjo, a governorship aspirant for Ogun State, has publicly stated her desire to run for governor in the 2027 elections, firmly rejecting any speculation about seeking a deputy governor or ministerial position. During a media interaction organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ogun State, she emphasized that her campaign will focus on public goodwill rather than financial strength.

Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, highlighted the grassroots support she has received, noting that contributions have come in various forms, including time and resources from the community. She asserted that she has not engaged in financial negotiations for lesser political roles, stating, "I’m not running for deputy governor, I’m not a minister." Additionally, she mentioned her professional background as a teacher over the past three years and her recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, describing it as a gracious and articulate discussion.
