Iyabo Obasanjo Advocates Consensus for 2027 Elections

Iyabo Obasanjo, a former senator representing Ogun Central, has expressed her support for a consensus approach to candidate selection ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections in Ogun State. Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, she described the consensus method as a means to produce credible electoral leaders.

Obasanjo, who is vying for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket, dismissed concerns that a consensus system might lead to the imposition of unpopular candidates. She emphasized that this approach does not exclude the views of party members and voters, asserting that it aims to bring forth the right candidates.

Obasanjo expressed confidence in the consensus process favoring her candidacy, citing her previous public service experience and resources directed toward development projects in her constituency. She reiterated her strong contention for the governorship race, having recently defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Obasanjo, 59, noted her gratitude for her parents' support, indicating they would vote for her.
