Umeh Defends Obi's Warning on Vote Manipulation for 2027

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, defended former Anambra State governor Peter Obi regarding his warning that Nigerians would resist any manipulation of votes in the upcoming 2027 general election. Umeh clarified that Obi's remarks should not be interpreted as a call for violence but rather as a necessary message urging electoral authorities and citizens to ensure the integrity of the voting process.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Umeh stated that voters expect a credible electoral process and that if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducts the election transparently, there would be little reason for Nigerians to reject the results. He emphasized the importance of counting votes accurately and protecting the sanctity of the ballot box, asserting that manipulation of results invites anarchy.

Umeh concluded that the call for transparency is a patriotic duty for the electoral commission to uphold public trust in the electoral process.
