Amaechi Declares Candidacy for ADC Presidential Ticket

Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transport and a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, announced his intention to contest for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming 2027 elections. In an interview on Tuesday, he expressed confidence in his qualifications, claiming he is better suited for the role than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, who were notable contenders in the last general elections.

Amaechi emphasized his extensive experience, having served as the Speaker of the River State House of Assembly, a two-term governor, and the chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum. He also served as the Director General of the Buhari campaign.

Critically, he addressed the current administration led by Bola Tinubu, alleging a drift towards authoritarianism and a failure to uphold democratic ideals, which he believes has negatively impacted Nigeria.
