2027: INEC announces date for commencement of voters registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will begin on August 25, 2025, ahead of the 2026 elections. Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, revealed in a recent interview with Channels Television that the registration will take place both online and at designated physical centers across the country.

Oyekanmi emphasized that the online registration will run for one week before the physical registration commences. INEC has already designated 811 centers nationwide, including local government offices and state headquarters, to make the exercise accessible.

Oyekanmi urged Nigerians who have turned 18 or have never registered to take advantage of the opportunity but warned against multiple registrations, as it is punishable by law. He advised citizens to register early and not wait until the last minute to avoid unnecessary pressure on the INEC office.
