REC Warns Against Multiple Registration

Sokoto State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Umar Garba has cautioned against multiple voter registrations, emphasizing that it is a violation of the Electoral Act and could result in prosecution. The ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which began online on August 18, 2025, aims to allow eligible Nigerians to register, update information, and replace lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Physical registration will commence on August 25, 2025, across the 23 local government areas at designated centers from 9 am to 3 pm daily, Monday to Friday. Garba highlighted the importance of the exercise in ensuring inclusivity, accuracy, and integrity of the national voter register.

INEC is deploying Voter Enrollment Devices and Automatic Biometric Identification Systems to detect multiple entries.
