INEC Extends Voter Registration Deadline to July 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, now scheduled to end on July 24, 2026. Originally set to conclude on July 10, 2026, this extension follows a review of feedback from stakeholders, including political parties and civil society organizations.

The aim is to provide eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered a fair opportunity to do so ahead of future elections. Additionally, INEC will launch a fully online self-service registration option for first-time voters on July 8, 2026.

This new system will allow eligible citizens to complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices from any location without needing to visit INEC offices. The platform will incorporate robust identity verification and maintain the integrity of the national voter register.
