INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for the submission of candidate lists for the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for February 2027. Mohammed Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, made this announcement in a statement on Sunday.

The original deadline was set for Saturday, August 8, 2026, but has now been extended to Tuesday, August 11, 2026. This decision was made in response to increasing appeals from political parties seeking additional time to finalize their candidate submissions.
