INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension for the submission of governorship and State Assembly candidates for the upcoming 2027 general elections. INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

The new deadline for submissions is now set for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, an extension from the original deadline of Saturday, August 8, 2026. This decision was made in response to numerous appeals from political parties seeking additional time to finalize their candidate lists.

INEC emphasized that the submission process involves uploading candidates' names on a dedicated portal, as outlined in the revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the General Election.
