INEC to Publish Candidates' Details for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to publish the personal particulars of candidates for governorship and State Houses of Assembly on Saturday, as part of the preparations for the 2027 general election. Wilfred Osilama Ifogah, INEC's Deputy Director of Publicity, confirmed that the publication date is fixed and will not change, in accordance with the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the election.

This action aligns with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, which mandates such publication within 21 days of receipt. The public campaign for these candidates will commence on September 9, 2026.

INEC has scheduled the online upload of candidates' names and particulars from July 18 to August 8, 2026, with an extension to August 11, 2026, following requests from political parties for additional time. Earlier, on August 1, INEC published the particulars of presidential and National Assembly candidates, with the withdrawal and replacement window for these candidates closing on August 22, 2026.
