INEC's APC Dominance Threatens 2027 Election Credibility

Kabiru Marafa, representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District, expressed concerns regarding the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during an interview. He alleged that INEC is largely filled with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he claims threatens the credibility of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Marafa emphasized that the commission's appointments appear to contravene legal requirements for non-partisanship, raising doubts about its ability to act independently. He criticized the current political climate, suggesting that the dominance of a single party could destabilize Nigeria's complex political landscape, which comprises nearly 300 million people.

Marafa noted that the existing electoral laws are strong but poorly implemented, leading to a lack of confidence in INEC. He warned that attempts to control the political future of Nigeria by any group or individual are likely to fail, citing historical precedents where such efforts have not succeeded.
