INEC Commits to Enhance Elections After Osun Success

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pledged to improve its electoral processes for the 2027 general elections, building on the successful conduct of the Osun State governorship election held on August 15. Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information/Voter Education Committee, made this commitment during a meeting with a solidarity delegation at INEC's headquarters in Abuja.

The delegation, which included political parties, civil society organizations, and community leaders, commended INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan (SAN) for the election's management. Haruna emphasized INEC's dedication to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, stating that each past election has shown improvement over the previous one.

The delegation leader, Obed Agu, noted significant enhancements in voter turnout and real-time results management during the Osun election, asserting that the praise was not solely due to the opposition party's victory. The group urged INEC to maintain and elevate these standards in the upcoming elections.
