Abdulsalami Abubakar: Vote Selling is Haram in Nigeria

Abdulsalami Abubakar, the former head of state of Nigeria, delivered a warning against the selling of votes during the 2027 general elections, labeling it as haram, which means forbidden or unlawful in Islam. This statement was made during a Ramadan tafsir held at his residence in Minna.

Abubakar emphasized the importance of adhering to Islamic principles and urged politicians to approach elections with civility, avoiding bitter rancor and negative campaigning characterized by mudslinging. He called for a focus on the electoral process as a civil affair rather than a life-and-death struggle.

Additionally, he encouraged Muslims to retain the lessons learned during Ramadan and remain committed to Islamic ideals throughout the holy month.
