Wike: Opposition Faces Tough Challenge Against Tinubu in FCT

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, remarked on Tuesday during an Abuja tour that it will be extremely difficult for the opposition to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Wike attributed this challenge to Tinubu's administration's extensive infrastructure drive, which he believes has significantly improved living conditions in the area.

He noted that such improvements would likely translate into electoral support for Tinubu. In the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi of the Labour Party secured victory in the FCT with 281,717 votes, while Tinubu received 90,902 votes, and Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party finished third with 74,199 votes.

Wike emphasized the current administration's focus on developing satellite communities around Abuja, aiming to enhance living standards and ensure that rural areas benefit from infrastructural advancements, thereby improving the overall quality of life for residents.
