Amaechi Warns ADC on Northern Candidate's Appeal

Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transport and ex-Governor of Rivers State, cautions the African Democratic Congress (ADC) about the difficulties of convincing southern voters to support a presidential candidate from the north in the upcoming elections. Speaking in Kano, Amaechi advised the party to carefully consider regional differences that could impact the next general elections.

He stressed the importance of making smart decisions to enhance the party's image and secure votes. Amaechi noted that the ADC must focus on three critical factors when selecting its presidential candidate: the ability to balance power in the country, the candidate's capacity, and adherence to the unspoken power-sharing rules that exist between the north and south.

He acknowledged the current power shift and its implications for southern politicians and voters. Amaechi expressed his commitment to support whoever emerges as the ADC presidential candidate, regardless of their region, and indicated his intention to run for the party's presidential nomination, promising to serve only a four-year term to facilitate a return of power to the north.
