Amaechi Warns ADC on Northern Candidate's Appeal

Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transport, expressed concerns that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may face challenges in convincing Southern voters to support a Northern presidential candidate. Speaking in Kano, he highlighted the importance of strategic decisions to enhance the party's national appeal ahead of the next general elections.

Amaechi advised the ADC to identify the best candidate to convince Nigerians, considering three critical factors: the candidate's capacity to prevail in power dynamics, respect for the unwritten law of power rotation, and the current political climate where Southern politicians may rally behind a party that respects power rotation. He warned that a Northern candidate might struggle to gain support in the South, especially when voters question the rationale behind transferring power to the North.

Despite these challenges, Amaechi reaffirmed his commitment to the ADC and stated he would support whoever emerges as the party's presidential candidate, regardless of their region. He previously declared his intent to vie for the ADC's presidential ticket, pledging to serve a single four-year term to allow power to return to the North after Bola Ahmed Tinubu's tenure.
