Court Adjourns Jonathan's Eligibility Suit to May 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the eligibility suit regarding former President Goodluck Jonathan's potential candidacy for the 2027 presidential election to May 15, 2026. The adjournment was prompted by the absence of the plaintiff's counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, who noted that the matter had been previously adjourned.

Justice Peter Lifu warned that punitive costs could be imposed against the plaintiff if they fail to appear in future proceedings. During the session, it was revealed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) had not been properly served, contrary to an earlier court order issued on May 8.

Jonathan's counsel argued for the suit to be struck out due to the lack of diligence in prosecuting the matter. However, Justice Lifu opted to give the plaintiff another opportunity to appear, directing all parties to ensure proper service before the next hearing.
