Jonathan Seeks Dismissal of Suit Against 2027 Candidacy

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, requesting the dismissal of a suit that challenges his eligibility to run in the 2027 presidential election. His lawyer, Chris Uche, informed the court that Jonathan has already submitted a preliminary objection and a counter-affidavit in response to the legal challenge.

The case was brought forth by plaintiff Johnmari Jideobi, who seeks a court order to restrain Jonathan from participating in the upcoming election, arguing that his candidacy would violate constitutional provisions. Counsel for the plaintiff, Ndubuisi Ukpai, requested additional time to review the documents served and prepare a reply.

Justice Peter Lifu has adjourned the matter until May 11 to hear the preliminary objections and substantive suit, and has ordered that notice be served to the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Attorney General of the Federation, who are listed as defendants in the case.
