Kwankwaso Teams Up with Obi for 2027 Presidential Race

Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State and the 2027 vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, explained his decision to partner with Peter Obi for the upcoming presidential election. He stated that this alliance is motivated by national interest, equity, and the necessity for political change.

During an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, Kwankwaso declared that former governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as the current Governor Abba Yusuf, have lost their political relevance in Kano State. He noted that his experience from the 2023 election helped him understand Obi better, leading to their collaboration.

Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of a balanced ticket that could garner support from both Northern and Southern Nigeria, particularly in light of security challenges, declining agricultural productivity, and deteriorating infrastructure. He believes the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would offer regional balance, competence, and credibility, addressing the democratic change that Nigerians sought in 2015.
