Kwankwaso Joins Obi as NDC Vice-Presidential Candidate

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State, has announced his acceptance of the vice-presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside Peter Obi for the upcoming 2027 presidential election. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Kwankwaso explained that his decision was motivated by the need to foster national balance, enhance democratic change, and create a political alliance that unites the North and South of Nigeria.

He noted that his previous interactions with Obi since the 2023 presidential election had positively influenced his perception of Obi's character and political approach. Kwankwaso consulted with members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Obidient Movement, which led to the conclusion that a joint ticket could effectively address regional balance in the 2027 elections.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the country's interests over personal ambitions, highlighting Nigeria's significant security challenges, agricultural issues, and infrastructure deficits, while also noting the need for political change.
