Kwankwaso Welcomes APC Defectors to NDC in Kano

On Sunday, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), welcomed defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement. The event took place at Kwankwaso’s residence along Miller Road in Kano State, where Danlami Zakari Unguwar Gertai from Gari Local Government Area and his supporters pledged their loyalty and commitment to the movement's vision for a better Nigeria.

This defection occurred less than 24 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the credentials and personal particulars of Kwankwaso and the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Notably, Kwankwaso and Obi were presidential candidates in the 2023 general election under different political parties before joining the APC and subsequently leaving the ruling party for the NDC due to internal divisions and prolonged legal disputes.
