Peter Obi Names Kwankwaso as VP Partner for 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, declared that Rabiu Kwankwaso will be his vice-presidential partner, not a "spare tyre," for the upcoming 2027 general elections. This announcement was made during a speech following Kwankwaso's nomination as Obi's running mate.

Obi, who previously served as the governor of Anambra State, noted the importance of unity and reform in Nigeria, especially given the current climate of insecurity and economic hardship. He highlighted the decline in public trust in the government and warned against ethnic and religious divisions.

Obi also addressed the need for significant improvements in Nigeria's healthcare system, pledging to raise health insurance coverage and increase healthcare funding. He emphasized the urgency of transforming agriculture to combat food insecurity, as well as the necessity to enhance electricity generation and tackle unemployment, particularly among the youth, where unemployment exceeds 40%.
