APC Chieftain Warns on Election Strategy for 2027

Olusola Ayeni, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Nigerian ambassador to Namibia, warned the party about its election strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections during a stakeholders' summit held in Offa, Kwara State. He stated that the APC's ability to retain power in Kwara State largely depends on the quality and acceptance of candidates across various levels of government.

Ayeni cautioned that the party risks losing ground if personal interests, ethnic, and religious influences affect its decision-making processes. He noted that the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, remains strategically active and could capitalize on any missteps made by the APC.

Ayeni urged President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC to ensure a fair and inclusive candidate selection process. Meanwhile, the Ilorin Emirate Political Advisory Council endorsed Tinubu's re-election bid and the governorship aspiration of Saliu Mustapha, citing the administration's developmental strides in Kwara State over the past three years.
