Kwara Speaker's 2027 Guber Bid Faces Legal Challenge

Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, faces scrutiny regarding his 2027 governorship ambition due to allegations of double nomination.

A civil society group has accused him of participating in both the APC governorship primary and the House of Assembly primary for the Ilesha/Gwanara constituency. The group filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, questioning the legality of his participation in both primaries, which were held on May 21 and May 22, 2026, respectively.

The plaintiffs seek a court determination on whether his candidacy for both positions is valid under the Electoral Act of 2026. They also request the court to declare his nomination and participation in the primaries as a violation of electoral provisions.

This legal action comes amid growing controversy surrounding the APC's primary process in Kwara State, with some party elders declaring Salihu unfit as a candidate, although the state chapter of the APC has dismissed these claims.
