Edo Senator Imasuen: Elections Should Ignore Lent, Ramadan

In an interview on Tuesday, Edo Senator Neda Imasuen emphasized that the scheduling of elections should not be affected by religious observances such as Lent and Ramadan. His remarks were made in response to the controversy surrounding the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) announcement of the election schedule for the 2027 general elections.

INEC has set the date for state governorship and house of assembly elections for March 6, 2027, following the presidential elections on February 20, 2027. This timetable has drawn criticism from various quarters, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has urged INEC to reconsider the schedule.

Senator Imasuen highlighted the need for a change in mindset among the populace, advocating for civic responsibility irrespective of religious commitments, asserting that such observances should not dictate electoral dates.
