Makinde and Mohammed May Use Proxies Against Wike

Political analyst Sumner Sambo stated that Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State might opt to send proxies to contest under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while remaining within the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This strategy is seen as a way to combat Nyesom Wike, who has been a contentious figure within the PDP.

Sambo noted that the PDP has been grappling with internal strife recently, leading to factional splits. He emphasized that Makinde does not wish to be associated with Wike any longer, while Bala Mohammed, as the chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, does not support Wike's camp.

Sambo warned that if the PDP does not address its issues, it may not survive beyond 2031, and the responsibility for the party's future will fall on a few individuals, including Makinde. He concluded that while Makinde may not defect to the ADC, he will fight to ensure the success of his preferred candidates within the PDP.
