Nasarawa APC Faces Division Over Sule's Successor Endorsement

The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing internal divisions after Governor Abdullahi Sule endorsed Senator Ahmadu Aliyu Wadada as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election. This endorsement, made in accordance with party guidelines, has drawn criticism from various stakeholders who argue that the proper procedures were not followed.

Notably, former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura expressed discontent, stating he was neither consulted nor informed prior to the endorsement. Governor Sule defended his decision, asserting that it followed extensive consultations and aligned with the established political traditions of the state.

Support for Wadada was also expressed by members of the state House of Assembly, led by Speaker Danladi Jatau. However, opposition within the party is growing, with former Inspector General of Police rejecting the endorsement and insisting that the party's flagbearer should emerge from a transparent primary process.

This situation has intensified debates around power rotation in Nasarawa State, with various groups advocating for different regions to produce the next governor, raising concerns about the potential weakening of party cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
