Atiku Warns Tinubu: Ensure Peter Obi's Safety Ahead of 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian government regarding the safety of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party. This warning came after Obi expressed concerns about threats to his life during an interview, which has raised alarm among Nigerians.

Atiku emphasized that the safety of every opposition leader is a constitutional obligation of the Nigerian state and a test of its democratic credentials. He stated that nothing should happen to Peter Obi, as intimidation of opposition leaders diminishes the voices of citizens and undermines democracy.

Atiku also criticized the government's focus on attacking critics instead of addressing pressing issues such as poverty, insecurity, and corruption, urging a more statesmanlike conduct from the government.
