Atiku Urges Safety for Obi and El-Rufai Amid Tensions

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, called on the Federal Government to guarantee the safety of opposition leaders Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai. In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Frank Shaibu, Atiku stressed that the safety of every opposition leader is a constitutional obligation of the Nigerian state.

He expressed deep concern regarding the government's response to Obi's public comments, which included derogatory language. Atiku urged the government to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to insults, warning that such actions could inflame an already tense political atmosphere.

He highlighted the pressing issues facing Nigeria, including economic hardship and insecurity, and called for the government to focus on rescuing citizens held captive by criminal gangs rather than engaging in political sparring. Atiku also renewed calls for the immediate release of Nasir El-Rufai and emphasized that every Nigerian is entitled to due process and equal protection under the law.
