NSCIA and JNI Warn Clerics Against Political Partisanship

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI) cautioned Islamic clerics in Northern Nigeria against engaging in political partisanship and spreading misinformation. Prof. Haq Oloyed, the NSCIA Secretary General, urged clerics to champion responsible communication during sermons and workshops aimed at building resilient communities.

The workshop focused on enhancing media literacy among clerics and scholars across Northern Nigeria. Abba Jimoh, the NSCIA Public Affairs Officer, highlighted that misinformation contributes to community clashes and heightens religious tensions, undermining public trust.

Prof. Khalid Aliyu, the JNI National Headquarters Imam, also called on clerics to remain apolitical and verify information before sharing it. The organizations warned that misinformation can lead to real-world harm, including health crises and conflicts, and urged the political class not to entice clerics into partisan politics.
