NSCIA Calls for Unity Among Nigerians on Islamic New Year

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) issued a statement urging Nigerians to reject any attempts to sow division among the populace as the Islamic New Year 1448 is celebrated. The statement, signed by spokesperson Abba Jimoh, expressed concern over the prevailing atmosphere of fear, anxiety, and hardship in the country, acknowledging the economic realities faced by average Nigerian households, including high living expenses, food inflation, and unemployment.

The NSCIA called for necessary reforms accompanied by compassionate policies to support the poorest and most vulnerable. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a separate statement, encouraged Muslim Nigerians to embrace the spirit of patriotism and reflect on the lessons of Hijrah, which include sacrifice and renewed patience in faith.

Tinubu's admonition emphasized the importance of building a peaceful and prosperous nation, urging Muslims to recommit to ideals of good citizenship as they enter the new year.
