Northern Resistance Challenges Peter Obi's 2027 Bid

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, is facing substantial resistance from northern political stakeholders regarding his presidential bid for the 2027 elections. Reports indicate that major northern leaders have not embraced the Nigeria Democratic Congress, warning against portraying Obi's candidacy as aligned with northern interests.

Muhammad Baba, a prominent figure from the Arewa Consultative Forum, noted that Obi and Kwankwaso's campaign has not gained significant visibility among ordinary northern voters. The skepticism is exacerbated by Obi's perceived connections to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which many in the north view unfavorably.

Additionally, recent events, including the burning of campaign posters in Kano State, reflect growing discontent. The political landscape remains uncertain, with voters increasingly scrutinizing past statements and actions of opposition leaders, leading to a cautious approach towards political alliances.

Zaid Ayuba from the Arewa Youth Consult Council emphasized that unless Obi addresses concerns regarding his stance on IPOB, he will struggle to gain acceptance in the north.
