Opposition Coalition G-100 Aims to Challenge Tinubu in 2027

The G-100, led by Salihu Lukman, is spearheading an initiative to unite various opposition parties in Nigeria, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in preparation for the 2027 elections. The presidential candidates from these parties include Atiku Abubakar (ADC), Peter Obi (NDC), Seyi Makinde (APM), Donald Duke (PRP), Adebayo Adewole Ebenezer (SDP), and Senator Sandy Onor (PDP).

The G-100 argues that individual parties lack the strength to defeat the ruling party and is advocating for a consensus candidate. A summit is planned for August 18 to facilitate discussions among the parties.

Despite some support for the initiative, analysts express skepticism regarding the willingness of candidates to set aside personal ambitions. Paul Ibe, media adviser to Atiku Abubakar, confirmed that Abubakar is open to any coalition effort that could prevent President Tinubu from securing a second term.
