Lukman Warns Opposition Against Repeating 2023 Mistakes

Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, announced his suspension from the party due to frustrations over the lack of unity among opposition leaders as the 2027 general elections approach. Speaking on Arise News’ The Morning Show, he cautioned that if personal ambitions continue to overshadow collective goals, the opposition may repeat the mistakes of the 2023 elections.

Lukman expressed that while a recent Court of Appeal judgment allowing the ADC and other parties to participate in the 2027 elections was a relief, it did not resolve the fundamental issues facing the opposition. He cited sustained hostility and political marginalization from certain leaders in Kaduna State, particularly former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, as reasons for his discontent.

Lukman indicated a willingness to rejoin the ADC if it would help unify opposition leaders, emphasizing the need for a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress amid Nigeria's economic and social challenges.
